How can Anxiety, Stress, Panic produce physical symptoms

Often physical problems have a strong mental or emotional component and are either psychosomatic or psychogenic. Often - but not always...

If you twist your ankle on an uneven pavement as you rush to catch a bus the psychogenic part is minimal. But, for example, lower back pain is notorious for having a strong connection with stressful thinking and living. 

If you experience physical symptoms there are few things to consider:

  1. If the symptoms are distressing, concerning or uncomfortable check with your doctor
  2. Act as if the symptoms has, at very least, a psychogenic or mind-related element - and work on reducing your stress levels (e.g. check out the Relaxation page as a starter)
  3. Treat the symptom as a message that something requires your attention. Because if all were well with how you are living your life you would not have the symptom. If all were well with how you...
  1. Handle the stress of daily living
  1. Handle what comes in to your body: air, drink, food - is your intake healthy or  unhealthy?
  2. Because of it’s impact on our entire system it is particularly important to manage your breathing - especially in times of stress
  3. How you use your body and how you look after it. Or example does it get a regular workout - aerobic, anaerobic, stretching?
